Though the falls are not the only highlight of the country, the fauna is also a fantastic attraction with its beautiful national parks such as Hwange, Gonarezhou, Mana Pools and Matobo. For those interested in archaeology or history, the ruins of the great Zimbabwe, discovered in 1868 are a fantastic testimony of the powerful ancient civilisation, at the beginning of the 2nd millennium. Today, it is considered as the biggest archaeological site of Southern Africa. Zimbabwe, which was one of the most prosperous of the region, is now facing strong economic difficulties since the ascension of Robert Mugabe.
